No cold swim this winter Solstice but each morning I turn the shower tap to cold before I get out and let the icy water bring me a,ice for the day.Beautiful writing Kate, so delighted to have found you here on Substack 🙏

Sally, I need to try this, I think turning the shower to cold might be harder than walking straight out into the sea!

I love this story

I used to swim here in the pacific ocean

Now I do a hot tub, cold plunge, sauna

Repeat

You’re braver than me

I like the idea of knowing that I can get warm quickly, but I do love the cold plunge and what it does for my brain

Great story thank you

I’m new here

Hello Prajna, so glad you are here. Hot tub, cold plunge, sauna, sounds fabulous. There is a new sauna boat here on our River which offers this experience, I want to try it. Cold clean water is wonderful.

Kate :)

I agree Kate

Last night I went to the hot tub sauna and cold plunge and I did an one minute underwater in the cold. It was so exhilarating.

Sitting in bed with my cuppa and a smile, soul warmed from reading your splendid words Kate, thank you. About to head off into the dawn with my friend for our wee jog to the river, cold dip, then awkward fumble and pull of clothes back on over cold, red skin. Jog home faster, filled with energy and delight. Aroha nui / big love x Dee

You're certainly braver than I am Kate. I'm reluctant even in summer to take a dip, but I think perhaps it's something that I should do at least once in thie lifetime! I'll just have to work up to it. And thank you so much for mentioning my newsletter.

Oh Kate, this is so beautifully written, and a great story. You are so brave. I don't think I'd be up for swimming in the freezing sea, although I did do it once many years ago when I was breastfeeding my son. I was so cold when I returned home that he refused his feed - I guess frozen milk was not his thing.

Thank you Phoebe for reading and your gorgeous comment. I loved your story of swimming on the cold sea and then your son refusing to breastfeed — only warm milk thanks mum!

Oh Deanna, what a wonderful way to start the day, a jog with a girlfriend and a dip in the river. I’m glad you enjoyed reading. Happy winter solstice from over the ditch!
